12 Bridges

"12 BRIDGES" is a 7 minute composition and installation by Berke Can Özcan, consisting of the rhythm played by fingers on a metal water bottle, whistling, sweeping brushes and the driver's own voice. During the 45 minutes drive from Sharjah to Al Dhaid, as the destination gets closer, the drinking water level contained in the bottle decreases and the excitement (in this case, the pitch) increases.

7 speakers installed inside 7 different trees, each walking distance to each other. "12 Bridges" is a part of "The Farm Project" curated by Zeynep Öz for the 16th Sharjah Biennial. "12 Bridges" is inspired by the story "Al Dhaid" written by May Alqaydi. (2025)

Pond for the Moon

"POND FOR THE MOON" is a 3 minute composition and installation by Berke Can Özcan, inspired from the story of the "Khsab" palm tree left behind by Bedouins in which its late bloom and its relation with the moon and the water is told. Water pumps performed and recorded by Berke Can Özcan. Then two speakers playing this composition were installed on the body of the huge tree. The original recording has no bird song, the birds decided to become a part of the installation by their own will, or the other way around. "Pond for the Moon" is a part of "The Farm Project" curated by Zeynep Öz for the 16th Sharjah Biennial. (2025)
